There are seven major chakras connected to and a part of the physical body. All are located on the torso and head. Each chakra transmits and receives life-force energy often called "chi", "qi", "prana", or "universal intelligence". When we are in a state of ill health, the chakras may be distorted, out of alignment or even stagnant.

Each chakra resonates with a particular frequency of vibration and are an integral part of vibration medicine. The physical body is a unit made of many different integral parts that are designed to be self-correcting. The body's job is to maintain balance and the free-flow of energy. The chakras are an energetic gateway, feeding the body pranic energy and providing an outlet for the release and disposal of spent energy.

One of the tools most commonly used to balance the chakras is subtle Aromatherapy, below you will find a brief explanation of each.

The Crown chakra is associated with thought and signifies our relationship to all as well as unity of everything. It symbolizes self-knowledge and spiritual consciousness.

The crown chakra is connected to the entire skin as well as muscular, skeletal and nervous systems.

This chakra is the seat of higher wisdom and the energy that comes from it. It is also thought to be the key to unlocking the infinite intelligence that exists in the universe.

Disruptions in your seventh chakra can also amount to the inability to gain closure on unfinished business.

Essential oils most applicable to this chakra are frankincense, sandalwood, myrrh, benzoin, neroli, lavender, and angelica.

Root Chakra The root chakra is associated with a sense of belonging in the world. It symbolizes the physical plane of existance and is known to be the source of self-preservation and survival.

When the root chakra is disrupted one feels alone in the world and afraid for their safety. Having no 'roots' gives on the feeling as if they are disconnected and ungrounded.

Essential oils most applicable to this chakra are patchouli, vetiver, myrrh, frankincense, sandalwood, cedarwood, galbanum, benzoin, angelica, St. John's Wort or all root oils

Heart Chakra The Heart chakra is associated with a gradual increase of consciousness, as it sits between the lower three and upper three chakras. However, primarily, it is the center of unconditional love.

Emotionally, when this chakra is blocked, you're likely to feel wounded or victimized. When the energy from the fourth chakra is disrupted, you may have trouble protecting yourself from emotional harm because you generally feel raw and emotionally vulnerable.

When the Anahata chakra is open and energy is flowing positively, you are likely to feel open, loving, and compassionate to those around you and to be very accepting of people for who they are.

Essential oils most applicable to this chakra are rose, bergamot, melissa, jasmine or rosewood.

Solar Plexus A Solar Plexus chakra is associated with personal power, living well and growth. A person dominated by this chakra will strive for personal power and recognition.

When the third chakra is closed or blocked, it can lead to a lack of energy, fatigue, a yearning to be quiet and shut down. It can often appear that the whole world is against one.

The balance for Manipura Chakra is selfless service, that is, serving without desire for reward. The practice of charity will clarify one's path of action, or karma.

Essential oils most applicable to this chakra are juniper, vetivert, rosemary, yarrow, petitgrain, palmarosa, marjoram or lemon.

Spleen Chakrz The Spleen chakra is often called the sexual chakra, because sexual energy (energy exchange between two people) is believed to originate there. It is also known as the seat of creativity.

When it is closed or blocked, it can make one appear lifeless and removed from an interest in sexuality.

Essential oils most applicable to this chakra are Ylang-ylang, jasmine, neroli, rose, rose geranium, orange or sandalwood.

Throat Chakra
The Throat chakra is associated with acts of communication, including speaking the truth or finding creative ways for self-expression.

The more free-flowing the energy of this chakra, the more you are able to speak your truth without fearing the consequences. When your fifth chakra is in balance, your will is aligned with devine will, causing you to feel that things are going your way.

When the throat chakra is disrupted, you may become afraid to speak your opinions or feel unsure about what you might say.

Essential oils most applicable to this chakra are blue chamomile, sage, lemongrass or hyssop.

Brow Chakra

The Brow chakra Ajna (command) is associated both with light and with psychic abilities. It provides a source of inner knowing (intuition), as well as an objective reflection of how things are.

People with clear chakras usually have a sense of life's realities that surpasses usual conscious barriers. For this reason, the sixth chakra is connected with higher levels of wisdom and a level of disposition.

When this chakra is blocked, you may have trouble seeing the big picture and have a tendency to judge people and events pretty harshly.

Essential oils most applicable to this chakra are rosemary, lavender, peppermint, spruce, frankincense, elemi or clary sage.
